Q: What is Porcelain Reglazing?
A: Porcelain is a clay like substance, which when kiln fired at very high temperatures and fused to cast iron or a steel mold, creates a very hard and vitreous surface that is impervious to most chemicals and abrasions. After years of constant use and abuse, such as a bathtub in a rental unit, the outer surface erodes and exposes a porous interior layer. This porous under-layer traps particulate and begins to appear dark, dirty, worn out, and generally unsanitary. The options for keeping the bathtub looking good at this point are; replacement of the bathtub, covering the tub with bathtub liner or refinishing the bathtub.
Refinishing is sometimes referred to as re-porcelainizing, reglazing or resurfacing. There is in fact no way to 're-porcelainize' a bathtub, as the original process required kiln firing, and this is not possible once a tub has been installed in an occupied building. Refinishing is a process where a new coating is applied over the existing porcelain. As with any coating process, preparation is the key to a successful application.
Q: My tub was resurfaced before and is peeling; can it still be refinished? A: Yes! We assume it was painted. We will first strip off the painted surface. Then reglaze the surface to an amazing shine!
Q: My tile has been resurfaced and is peeling; can it be resurfaced? A: Yes. We take off the old coating, prep the surface, and resurfacing again with our amazing product!
Q: My tub is dull, stained and very hard to clean. Is it in need of resurfacing? A: Most likely, yes. As the surface becomes more porous it will become even more difficult to clean, creating a health hazard from excessive mold and mildew you're unable to remove. Resurfacing is your quickest and least expensive solution to this problem.
Q: What kind of warranty do you offer? A: Our coating material has a 5 yr. limited warranty. All warranty information is issued in writing.
Q: How long does refinishing usually last? A: Our Glas-tech 9000 coating will last up to 15 yrs. or longer with proper care.
Q: Does resurfacing ceramic tile stop the mildew? A: Yes. By resurfacing the tile and grout, cleaning becomes much easier and virtually eliminates constant grout cleaning.
Q: How is Renew-It Company different from other resurfacing companies? A: Many of our competitors are not licensed, professionally trained refinisher. Our inexperienced competitors cut corners and pricing by using spray paint, enamel paint, car paints and epoxies for refinishing. These coatings generally dull, chip, stain, fade and even yellow within a few months. In contrast, Renew-It Company prides itself in the use of superior grade coating material chemically formulated specifically for the bathtub and tiled wall refinishing industry. Our products are able to withstand years of normal use, and our workmanship is guaranteed.
